Maureen Fedorus, BSW
I have worked in the health and social services sector primarily in Mental Health for the better part of thirty years. Much of my work has been advocating for vulnerable populations including LBGTTQ+ inclusivity in health care, mental health, youth engagement and peer support programming.
Having worked for years on mobile crisis teams and for the military health care system, I also bring to the role specialized knowledge of the military and the challenges of military families with regard to navigating the public health care system and their family care needs upon posting.
As a health advocate, I aim to provide high quality system navigation and to approach clients and their families with empathy and compassion. When an individual is struggling with health challenges it can be a highly stressful time and I am looking forward to helping reduce that through advocacy and emotional support, allowing people to focus on their wellness.
I live on a lake in beautiful Beaver Bank – the little community with a big heart in the Halifax Regional Municipality with my cat Elsa Marie. I enjoy hand drumming and playing the djembe (African drum) and in my spare time you will find me amongst the flowers in the garden or paddling around on the lake.
