Theresa Erb, RN, BSN

I have had the privilege of being a nurse for 28 years, with 27 of those years working with children of all ages and medical complexities at BC Children’s Hospital. I have worked in both the in-patient (admitted) and outpatient (at home) areas, including 12 years in the Emergency Room. I have witnessed how difficult it is to remember what you have been told about the complex information given to patients and families in a health care encounter and how confusing it can be to navigate the increasingly complex healthcare system. My goal as a health advocate is to use my experience to help you know and understand your health, and help you navigate the system to get the supports you need to optimize your wellness goals.

One of the foundational practices at Children’s Hospital that has been a guiding principle in my practice is family-centered care. Every patient is part of a family, no matter the size, and knowing the needs and strengths of the family are critical in meeting the needs of the patient. Helping to meet the needs of each member of the family, while utilizing the strengths within the family is a critical part of what I do, no matter the age of the patient.

I have a passion for learning and using what I have learned to help others and I am excited to use what I have learned to help families as an advocate. I continue to strive for ongoing opportunities to further my own learning and I am currently taking the Optimize Coach course. In my down time I enjoy outdoor pursuits, gardening, making art, and spending time with my family
